The W hotel of Shanghai, located right next to the White Magnolia Plaza, also known as Sinar Mas Centre, is a new landmark in Shanghai with a panoramic view of Huang Pu River and the North Bund. The owner, APP group, wanted it to become a marker of the best luxurious W hotel in China and maybe the world. When an epic, high end, impeccable kitchen and laundry are asked for, strength and expertise will come into play for a successful construction project.
Progress is always critical to every project and W hotel was no exception. Any activity in the way of a critical path could be detrimental.
The switching of gas to electric equipment after contract was a serious issue. The design of the hotel dated back to 7 to 8 years before the opening and in that time kitchen equipment of open flame was allowed in the show kitchen. As time went by the fire regulation for massive public area got stringent over a few happenings of fatal blaze taking the toll. Now literally gas equipment is forbidden in every show kitchen for the hotel use. So a quick fix was imperative and a challenging progress became even more challenging.
Despite all the complicated changes, we had the consultant, the supplier and all the associated partners behind us along the way. So we dealt with changes with practically no time implication to the main program.
This is the second APP project in Shanghai after the Westin hotel in Bund Centre we did a long time ago.
